Brendan Murphy’s Astronaut Sculpture Is Now Standing in the Caribbean Sea

the 22-foot, 3,000-pound sculpture named "The Boonji Spaceman,"

Brendan Murphy created the 22-foot sculpture, which got the title The Boonji Spaceman. And now, his creation is standing literally in the middle of the ocean at the Hodges Bay Resort, located in Antigua. The sculpture, with a weight of 3,000 pounds, is done in Michael Jackson’s famous dancing move, adorned with various phrases and mathematical sums.

Since the astronaut sculpture arrived at the hotel in March, it has become a tourist attraction. And in this museum exhibition, the guards serve as the curators.

The artist’s space addiction began at an early age when the artist was still attending elementary school. So, when the co-owner of the Resort asked him to create an extraordinary statue, Murphy wanted it to have a big size.

He wanted to create an installation that could be seen from space. To achieve this goal, the artist even asked a photographer to take a photo of the sculpture from space, which we will see soon.

Murphy, who is 50 years old, shared he spent 8 months working on the sculpture made of steel and carbon fiber. He built it piece by piece and reassembled it in Miami. Then, he took it apart, put it in boxes, and sent it to Antigua. But placing it in the Caribbean, where hurricanes are common, was not easy. That’s why the artist installed a steel frame inside it.
