Discover about the 100 Years of History of Inflatable Boats with Aerodream

The centre Pompidou-Metz explores the history of inflatable architecture and design, and on this occasion presents an exhibition called Aerodream. It features a variety of artworks in the form of live installations, drawings, posters, and photographs. The organizers of the exhibition are Frédéric Migayrou and Valentina Moimas, and it is scheduled to be open to the public until 23 August 2021. And then, from October 6 to February 14, 2022, it will be moved to Paris.

The exhibition is divided into seven groups that reflect the main moments in the development of inflatable boats over the past 100 years. The first section explores air in art, the other part of the exhibition is devoted to industrial innovations in pneumatic structures.

Apart from practical applications, Aerodream also explores how inflatable boats were used in utopian lifestyles. The second and fourth sections of the exhibition show how artists and architects explore how they can change people’s relationships with the environment.

The last groups of the exhibition are dedicated to the rises and falls of plastics and inflatable boats. The fifth section explores how the mass production of plastics in the 1960s forced designers to ditch traditional materials and create inflatable furniture instead.
