Hopkins Architects Created Their Own City at the Expo 2020 That Took Place in Dubai
Dubai is hosting the EXPO, a global technology fair that brings together nearly 200 countries from all over the world. The world exhibition has existed since 1851 and is used to showcase technical and technological advances. It was for the 1889 exhibition that theEiffel Tower was built. The exhibition runs for six months, starting from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.
And Hopkins Architects have designed the largest built area called Thematic Districts. A kind of city will be a home for more than 87 individual national pavilions with works of participating international firms.
Focusing on culture and climate, Hopkins have created three petal-shaped districts using geometry, color, and landscape to give a distinct character.
A series of human-scaled streets are full of trees and courtyards, where people can sit and rest, enjoying the landscape. A wide variety of food, drinks, and other offerings will suit all ages and tastes. In addition, there are various activity areas for all interests.
52 lightweight metal structures are rising to 16 meters in height and width to create an interconnected covering. The individual panels of different shades feature the unique color and patterns that match the identity of each district.
