UNESCO Spoke About the Need To Preserve Cultural Heritage Sites in Afghanistan

UNESCO Is Concerned and Calls for the Protection of Monuments in Afghanistan

UNESCO called on international colleagues to preserve cultural heritage sites in Afghanistan. First of all, the organization asked for the preservation of such monuments: the National Museum of Afghanistan which is located in Kabul, and the Museum of Islamic Art in Ghazni. The list also includes UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Minaret, archaeological sites in JeM, as well as the cultural landscape and archaeological sites in the Bamiyan Valley.

The territory of Afghanistan is of big interest for archeology, where the greatest empires of antiquity existed before, from which a large number of various archaeological sites remained.

Twenty years ago, the Taliban blew up two rock-cut Buddha statues in Bamiyan province, which were considered the tallest sculptures of a deity in the world. First, the terrorists fired at the monuments with weapons, and then a decree appeared on the destruction of all such sculptures on the territory of Afghanistan. Then, the destruction of valuable cultural monuments caused shock and harsh condemnation from the international community.

On Sunday, the Taliban announced the establishment of control throughout Afghanistan. The President immediately left the country, explaining this as a desire to avoid bloodshed. Soon, many countries began to evacuate their citizens.
