An Artist and Activist From China, Ai Weiwei, Unveiled Hand-Silkscreened Scarves

Ai Weiwei Unveiled Hand-Silkscreened Scarve

Ai Weiwei is known for challenging and criticizing the Chinese government. After an earthquake that hit and destroyed a Sichuan province in 2008, the activist encouraged volunteers to gather the dead children’s names as the officials didn’t initially publish a number of the dead or missing students. Then, the artist published the information on his blog and made art about the tragedy.

But unfortunately, his blog was shut down in 2009, and he was beaten by police. Then in 2010, he was under arrest, and in 2011, he was imprisoned for 81 days.

In 2015, the Chinese artist finally left the country and never came back. Now, he lives in Portugal. And recently, Ai Weiwei has created a hand-made scarf made of 100% silk. The designer was inspired by the tradition of drawing on Chinese paper. The scarves are made of handwoven and hand-silkscreened and are based on a 2,000-year-old paper cutting tradition. Such colored paper with cuts is used to tell stories in celebrations, for prayers, and as everyday decor. The scarves are 100% silk. The items are available in blue, red, and black versions.
