Dutch Artist Installed a Carpet

The artist from the Netherlands has always been passionate about glisten and sparkle things. And this fascination, Suzan Drummen has now transformed from childhood to her latest artwork. Drummen, who has been creating shiny art installations since 2002, presented the project right inside the Royal Palace Amsterdam. The unique collection features crafted objects in the form of a colorful carpet with kaleidoscopic patterns.

The special exhibition got the title Trailblazers and marks the 150th anniversary of the Netherland’s Royal Award for Modern Painting. Special for this occasion, Suzan along with 17 other artists was invited to participate. The artwork was created in nine days in cooperation with three assistants, as a result of which the carpet installation adorns the room of the Royal Palace.

The Dutch artist started her work without having any plan beforehand. Her team put each rhinestone by hand, and they respond to the color, light, and atmosphere of the salon in a natural way. But since the fluorescent colors of the sparkling jewels and gemstones that cover the carpet are unsecured, it is impossible to walk through the location at all. And this is the reason why the guests are only allowed to watch the art installation from the doorways.

Susan Drummen’s work will be on display until October 3.
