Issei Miyake Demonstrates a Japanese Technique While Creating 2021/22 Collection

For the Fall / Winter 2021/22 collection, Issei Miyake decided to explore colors, silhouettes, and different shapes found in nature. Using an old ink technique popular in Japan, the artist applied it in the collection of clothing. You can visit the exhibition which arrives in Kyoto.

How does the dyeing process itself happen? Firstly, the craftsmen paint the surface of a large turned-over bath of water with paint. Then, the solution begins to spread freely and forms an organic pattern. Finally, the artist transfers it directly to a clean cloth, which absorbs it.

Each pattern is unique and handcrafted in a studio. And thanks to the lighting and video installation in combination with fabric, the exhibition turns into magic showing the power of nature.

The collection includes 5 pieces, namely a suit, two shirts, a pair of trousers and a costume. The items featuring quality prints are available in white and beige colors.
