Paintings From the 1900s Show What People Thought the Year 2000 Would Look Like

These works of art show the ideas of people from the 1900s about mechanized devices and flying vehicles that would have been in the 2000s. The paintings also feature people living marine life.

France in the Year 2000 is a fascinating example of what people in the past thought about the future. A few works of art, painted between 1899 and 1910 by Jean-Marc Côté and other artists from France, shows the artist’s predictions of what life in the future might look like. Interestingly, the first images were printed and put in cigarette boxes in 1900 during the World Exhibition which took place in Paris. Later, they were transformed into postcards.

Lots of the artists’ ideas also include mechanized and flying devices, such as farming machines, robots, and helicopters. And some show people involving in marine life. For example, in some of the fantastic portraits, people are portrayed riding on seahorses. However, there are no depictions of space travelings at all.
