The Dad From Nottingham Collects Thousands of Face Masks Every Day and Turns Them Into Art

Man From Nottingham Creates Works of Art From Abandoned Face Masks

After five years working at the brewery, Thomas Yates was fired at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. But the 45-year-old man was not upset and decided to use the extra time for cleaning the streets and collecting trash during the everyday workouts. For example, while running and cycling, he can collect more than 2800 abandoned face masks. Then the man posts his creations to social media where he has hundreds of fans. He shared the works of art made from trash every few weeks before recycling them. His main aim is to draw attention to the problem and to show that art can be made from anything, even from rubbish.

Thomas has been gathering trash around Nottingham city since last January. Most often, he finds cans and plastic bottles, as well as cigarette butts. Now, about 500 masks are stocked in his barn.

Thomas has three children who also help him to clean up the streets of Nottingham. During the pandemic, they collected thousands of pieces of garbage and were shocked at how much they found. It is known that it takes 450 years for masks to decompose in nature.
