The sculpture is made of bronze and is estimated at £210,000. Such an amount was paid by the town’s council and partners. The memorial, created by Graham Ibbeson, will be presented in the Glass Works square. To see the artwork on November 22, titled Reverence, the workers and bereaved families were invited to the ceremony.

The work of art depicts ordinary workers and those who were affected by the pandemic. The work also features the line written by town poet Ian McMillan.

By the end of last month, more than 900 people in the city had died with Covid. The pandemic is still continuing to affect everyone in Barnsley.
