International Art Day | World Art Day Is an International Celebration of the Arts

art day

World Art Day is celebrated annually on April 15th. It was founded by the International Art Association and was celebrated for the first time in 2012. The idea of an international day dedicated to all types of fine arts was first presented at the 17th General Assembly of the International Art Association.

April 15 was chosen as the date for art day because Leonardo da Vinci, an outstanding Italian painter, was born on that day in 1452. Despite the fact that he considered himself primarily a scientist and then an artist, his contribution to the development of the visual arts is undeniable.

Interesting Facts About World Art Day

International Art Day events include art exhibitions, conferences, and museum open days. The holiday is actively supported by online media, in particular, the Internet platform Google Art Project.

Art is one of the most general categories of aesthetics, art history, and artistic practice. Usually, art is understood as a figurative interpretation of reality, the process, and the result of the expression of the inner and outer world. Consequently, art is a creative activity that reflects the interests of not only the author but also other people.

The definition and assessment of art as a phenomenon of reality, being, and consciousness is the subject of lengthy discussions. The understanding of art has changed along with the evolution of philosophical, social, aesthetic norms and assessments. For a long time, art was considered a way of cultural activity that satisfies a person’s love for beauty. In this sense, art is a skill, the product of which gives aesthetic pleasure.

In the scholastic definitions of the Marxist aesthetics of the Soviet period, art is a special way of cognizing and reflecting reality, one of the forms of aesthetic and artistic activity of individual and social consciousness, part of the spiritual culture of both one person and all of humanity.

Thus, the criterion of art is the ability to evoke an emotional response from other people. In such definitions, there is no proper constitutional component, which is why there is a confusion of two fundamental categories: aesthetic and artistic activity, which especially negatively affects the assessment of both classical and contemporary art of the XX-XXI centuries: postmodern forms of creativity, post-industrial design, the latest forms of architecture.
